John Smith sfogliava distrattamente le pagine dell’Evening Standard, mentre l’aereo iniziava la fase di decollo. Erano le cinque del pomeriggio del 10 luglio, e Londra era avvolta da un manto grigiastro. Pioveva ormai da tre giorni e lui aveva bisogno di una vacanza, di un posto caldo dove ci fossero giornate di sole. L’Italia era l’ideale.
Aveva ricevuto la lettera del suo carissimo amico archeologo Franco Donati, il pomeriggio precedente, e subito si era mostrato entusiasta all’idea di recarsi a Roma per partecipare al convegno su “Parapsicologia, archeologia, e luoghi del mistero”. Era un argomento che da sempre lo affascinava, soprattutto da quando aveva scoperto di avere delle doti speciali.
